MARTINE McCUTCHEON My Fair Lady

25-year-old celebrity TV soap and pop star Martine McCutcheon was hired to play Eliza (opposite Jonathan Pryce) in the National Theatre/Trevor Nunn 2001 London revival of “My Fair Lady.”
McCutcheon’s vocal problems and constant absences made headlines and forced her to depart prematurely. Yet she went on to win the 2002 Best Musical Actress Olivier Award for her Eliza.

  1. Felt like this video disappeared for a few months! Glad it's still here <3

  2. Thanks so much for this recording!! Though such a shame not to include a bit of the Ascot scenes which were hilarious and soooo stylish! But I'm being greedy now. ☺

  3. i dont know if she would have been good in this show went in 2001 didn't see her but loved the understudy and dennis waterman singing not the theme tune

  4. I actually find Martine's voice really lovely, it gives a new spin to the classical soprano voice. Her rendition of "I could have danced all night" is quite enchanting, because you genuinely feel her excitment (plus, I believe this production had marvelous orchestrations and orchestra).
However, I've been dying to ask something. Does she have a condition in her eyes? I find her look in "Wouldn't it be loverly?" quite disturbing XD Was it because of makeup or something?
Anyway, thanks for uploading this video, I always wondered how she would look as Eliza, and she did not dissapoint <3
